Artisan Seamster

The Artisan Seamster will perform the required duties as outlined in this job description. They are a part of the production team and may be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

All staff members will be asked to participate in the production phase of creating and shipping our products during peak seasons. Between the Black Friday and our shipping deadline in mid-December, no vacation time will be granted and all staff members will be asked to accept overtime requests. Please be prepared to accept overtime during these and other periods of high demand for our spectacular products, and join your teammates as we appreciate working together through another wonderful season of Spark*l.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • After training, your responsibilities include the operation of a leather sewing machine to sew designer and vintage leathers, raw leather, and canvases
  • Ensure that you fully understand the safe function of any and all equipment including but not limited to, changing needles, directional change, and threading before using the sewing machine. Always adhere to the safe use of all tools and equipment for you safety and the safety of others, without exception
  • Follow exact specifications and instructions in creating each leather piece and product
  • Follow our Spark*l safety protocol and wear a safety mask when inside the building (COVID safety protocol)
  • Sew with precision, creating each piece exactly to the customer’s specifications
  • Trim threads and frays from leather and forward your sewn piece to embellisher
  • Perform Leather taping, rotary cutting, hole punching, and edge-flex pieces as needed.
  • Follow instructions precisely and build each piece as defined by the order
  • Asking for assistance from your supervisor if you are unclear about the instructions or order
  • Suggesting your ideas for improvements in any process or design element are encouraged and welcome. Always discuss your ideas with your supervisor or the Production Floor Manager
  • Perform Quality Assessment on your work prior to handing it to your Supervisor
  • Maintaining required level of production output and the highest quality of artisanship
  • Opportunities will include cross training into other jobs and roles on the studio production floor

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Successful experience working as a seamstress, or proven ability to accomplish precision sewing projects
  • Familiarity and experience sewing leather goods is preferred
  • Maintain the required level of production output and the highest quality of artisanship
  • Demonstrated eye for detail and a commitment to quality results
  • Ability to see and identify symmetry, ensuring stitching is straight and aligned
  • Ability to solve problems independently, and seek direction when needed
  • Commitment to follow instructions outlined by the customer as per their order
  • Firm adherence to policy, knowing when to request an exception
  • Articulate communicator. Your verbal and written communication style is clear and concise
  • Ability to learn and take direction
  • Efficient time manager. You use your time wisely and get things done
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, and would never consider stealing. We have zero tolerance
  • Learn quickly and adjust to change without resistance

Education & Experience:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs at times.
