Welcome to Chipangali
Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage is a non-profit organization located in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. They are dedicated to rescuing and caring for injured, orphaned, abused, abandoned, or confiscated wild animals in southern Africa.
The orphanage was established in 1973 by an ex-game ranger and his wife, Vivian and Paddy Wilson. They worked to create a home for wild animals who have little chance of surviving on their own. Since Chipangali is not a zoo, the orphanage releases and rehabilitates the rescued animals when possible. Others, who cannot survive alone, are kept, cared for, and studied for educational and zoological purposes.
They say, “Chipangali is a haven for wild animals which have little hope for survival in the wild – creatures which have been orphaned, abandoned, injured, born in captivity or brought up unsuccessfully as pets. It is often the last refuge for those brought in sick or injured, and increasingly it is a sanctuary for confiscated animals.
Chipangali has been featured in countless documentaries and is now world renowned for its pioneering work and is famed as one of Africa’s largest and most successful wildlife rehabilitation/release centers.”
Chipangali means, ‘open friendly country’, which fits perfectly with their mission. They also rescue and release all types of animals, including many different mammals, reptiles, and birds.
We created the Safari collection as a way to reflect the beauty of Africa, but also to give back to such an important organization. Spark*l found this orphanage when one of our team volunteered there for a few weeks. Their mission became important to us, as we also value sustainability and creating a healthier earth.
When you buy a Safari accessory, 10% of your purchase is going to the Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage. The donation will goes towards helping education, conservation, research, cooperation, and the orphanage itself. You will be helping us make the world a better place.
